Bucharest metro is a relatively young metro in Europe. Its network includes 5 lines, 77.5 km long, and 83 stations.

In 2017, Pluton replaced an outdated rectifier with a new, more powerful and modern one, V-TPED series rectifier, as a part of Piata Unirii 1 substation (M1 metro line) reconstruction.

In 2022, we implemented a modern Tudor Arghezi traction substation to power a new section of M2 metro line. M2 metro line, being the busiest in the system, passes through many districts and is the only line servicing the city center. Extension of M2 line and construction of the new station was aimed at helping the residents of remote areas and especially the passengers coming to Bucharest from outside the city to get to work quickly.

Tudor Arghezi substation includes the following equipment:

  1. 12-pulse withdrawable rectifier, type V-TPED-2.5k-825 - 2 pcs.
  2. DC switchgear 825 V, including:

    - incoming cubicle - 2 pcs.

    - line cubicle - 5 pcs.

    - negative busbar disconnector cubicle - 1 pc.

    - spare trolley with circuit breaker - 1 pc.

    - DEPEC earth fault control cabinet - 1 pc.

  1. Load disconnectors - 10 pcs.
  2. Grounding disconnectors - 4 pcs.
  3. Disconnector control cabinets - 2 pcs.
  4. VLD voltage limiting device - 2 pcs.

The substation's equipment meets the highest safety and reliability criteria and modern international standards. VLD (Voltage Limiting Device) connects conductive parts and traction system return circuit to prevent unacceptably high voltage by touching open conductive elements of equipment.

The substation control system is based on the latest SOTA® system manufactured by Pluton. It combines two separate functional devices - programmable controller (PLC) and traction network protection and monitoring system. The main advantage of SOTA® is its support of IEC 61850 protocol, a standard for real-time interaction and data exchange between substation devices that ensures maximum efficiency, safety and reliability of the power system.
