Lidingöbanan is a prime example of partial modernization and combining the latest technologies with time-proven solutions. This is the only one of Stockholm's five tram systems, where retro trains were in operation for a long time.

Lidingöbanan is one of the oldest tram systems in Sweden. The line was opened in 1914 and connected Lidingö island with the center of Stockholm by two tracks. When traffic in Sweden became right driving in 1967 and the main tram systems in Stockholm were closed, the route was significantly reduced, and afterward, the northern track was closed.

In the summer of 2013, the line was closed for a complete reconstruction. The total cost of the project is app. 17 million Euro. One of the project's general contractors is Eltel (Sweden). Company Sebab (Sweden) has fulfilled the design, selection, and supply of equipment for 5 new traction substations of 1,6 MVA capacity: Ropsten, Baggeby, AGA, Högberga, Käppala. Ropsten, Baggeby and AGA are fed with 33 kV from SL own network and Högberga, Käppala with 11 kV from the public grid.

PLUTON has supplied DC equipment for new traction substations. In 2015 all commissioning works were completed and the modernized Lidingöbanan line was opened with new rolling stock.

In May 2018, was completed Sickla substation building on the latest and the most up-to-date Tvärbanan half-speed tram line (Stockholm). PLUTON experts carried out development and equipment supply and commissioning execution monitoring. Within the framework of the project, the traction substation was equipped with reliable and modern equipment, meeting European and international standards — rectifier V-TPED-750-12R, DC switchgears series RU-750-L, RU-750-OSH, RU-750-RV, as well as high-speed circuit breaker checker produced by PLUTON.

In 2019 PLUTON carries out a supply of DC switchgears 1500 V for the Arninge traction substation, that provides the power supply of the Roslagsbanan suburban high-speed train line. Especially for this project, PLUTON experts implemented a unique technical solution — thyristor rectifier 1500 V, that allows stabilizing supply network voltage, and therefore increases the distance between substations.

In 2020 PLUTON provides supply and commissioning of the rectifier and DC switchgears 750 V for Konsthallen substation on the Stockholm's city tram line 7, also called Spårväg City. Konsthallen substation is the first substation in Europe where PLUTON implemented its innovative and unique solution — AFB arc-free ultra high-speed DC circuit breaker.

In 2022 PLUTON provided powerful 12-pulse voltage-controlled rectifiers VCR with a rated current of 2.3 kA and voltage of 1500 V and improved control algorithms for Vallentuna and Lindholmen, the new traction substations on the Roslagsbanan train line. Within the frame of the project, PLUTON implemented for the first time the IEC 61850 Power Industry Communications Standard in the substation's specific environment. It provides integration of all equipment and systems into a unified communication network for prompt and safe control, as well as for the integration into the control system of other levels.
